it's a dit name! Help please - getting the merge right

Here's the Compare view on this merge:

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:MergePerson&user1_name=DesTroismaisons%20dit%20Picard-55&user2_name=Picard-775&action=compare

I think i understand that the dit name should not be part of the WikiID, but in this case i can't read the parish register for the baptism - can't even identify the entry on the page - so i don't know if it should be Picard or DesTroismaisons.

Please help!

Thanks!

What do you mean by "dit"?
Beth, dit names are particular to Quebec from 1600’s to 1900’s.
thanks Liza

Shirlea,

See the Quebecois project page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Quebecois If you scroll down there is a discussion of “dit names”.

And here is a G2G post on how to use it: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1382371/how-are-canadian-dit-names-properly-entered

It's 4th on the right, and the priest took a shortcut (lol), wrote 3maisons.  So LNAB would be Troismaisons.

Thanks Danielle! You are my hero for anything québécois!

What a nifty shortcut the priest took!  I wonder how many other instances of names with numbers in them are represented that way in parish registers!
This is the first instance I have seen of such used for a French name.  I have seen it on native names, whether of individuals or tribes, so Outatouais actually gets written Outa8ais or something like that (going from memory here), which might mean that it was pronounced Outahuiais.  Not sure about that last.
