G2G: Newly created FreeSpace oage showing 404

I've just reated a new Free Space page, which is showing up as 404 when I click on the Profile tab in the editor and when I click it from its Category page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Somerset_Archives). However, I can still successfully refresh the tab I have with the page in edit mode.

The G2G profile/page box doesn't like the link either. It is: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Register%20of%20Baptisms%20-%20Huish%20Episcopi,%20Somerset%20-%201813-1855%20-%20D/P/h.ep/2/1/3

My initial thought was that it might be something to do with the forward slashes in the name, although given that some backslashes in the original title have been deliberately swapped to forward slashes for the URL, that seems less likely.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

I think this is a known problem when using "special" characters, like forward slash and back slash in your free space page names. If you only use letters, numbers, and spaces, you won't have this problem.

This link works for me:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Register_of_Baptisms_-_Huish_Episcopi%2C_Somerset_-_1813-1855_-_D%5CP%5Ch.ep/2/1/3

In it the space characters are represented by underscores instead of %20, whereas the commas have become %2C and the backslashes %5C.

Rick is right that you won't be able to use such a URL in the G2G question ID box.

The best solution for these problems is to use a Page Title with no punctuation, or even spaces.

After you have initially created the page, edit it and change the Page Name to whatever you want, including punctuation. If Page Name is nonempty, it replaces the Title as the main heading.

Pretty much what I expected: it might be a good idea to put and check in and block the creation of pages with unusable titles.

So a follow up question: how do I change the url of or delete the problem page?

Nicholas, create a new Space page with the new title (you can use spaces, just leave out the punctuation) and then merge the two together. Let us know if you need help with this!

I've already done that. My question is how do I get rid of the old page. I don't want to leave a page with a corrupt url lying around.

As Mindy said, you merge them.

Missed that bit. I'll try, although I'm a little scepitical the merge process will work if the url is effectively corrupt.

If it doesn't work, Mindy might be able to help.  If not, she'll know who to ask regards removing the "bad" page.

Re the suggestion Nicholas makes in the first part of his answer, see Improvement: avoid punctuation in free-space profile titles.
