Deleting a profile

I have the names of the parents of my 3 X great grandmother and created profiles for them.  As I am unable to verify anything apart from their names, I want to delete their profiles to avoid any confusion.

Carol, if you add a link to the profile(s) in question, perhaps some of us can help you find more details.

AND it's okay to include estimates in the birth data; just note in the bio that you did so and how you came to those estimates.
Thank you.  I am getting help to merge information on profiles.

One of two things will occur, you will find more information and add to the profile or someone else will create a profile and merge them. Once a profile is created, they are seldom, if ever, deleted. In the future, gather your information (and sources) before creating the profile if you have doubts.

As has been suggested, it is best to gather any info. before creating a profile. Put the information under a Research heading on the profile you are trying to connect an ancestor to. That way anybody reading the profile may find that info. helpful and contribute to it further, allowing connected profiles to be created.

Can the profiles be merged, then edit out the wrong content.?

What I did once when I had a similar problem was edit every thing in the wrong profile, removing or changing information so both profiles matched.

Then I merged them, which worked for me.

I will probably get called to the principals office for a lecture nowdevil

You SHOULD be called to the Principal's office!!!

You don't CHANGE one profile to make it match another profile!!  Did the person and information in the other profile exist for someone?  How do you know if that person existed or not?

Recycling WikiTree IDs is the main help page covering this. As I understand it, if a profile is intended to be a particular person, then amending incorrect information, and replacing with sourced information is fine, Merging two profiles that are intended to be the same person is also fine, even if one has incorrect information on it, prior to the merge. Part of the task of a merge proposal is to outline why the two profiles appear to be the same person, even though there may be discrepancies in the information on the two profiles.

Altering a profile so that it represents someone different than the person it was created to represent, gets into the area of recycling, which isn't the recommended way to go on WikiTree.

Thanks everyone.  I am getting help to merge profiles and information.  I should mention this particular profile was created  in my early days of genealogy.  I have learned a lot since then.
