G2G: Searching for Unknowns

In an effort to try to help find some maiden names, I searched for UNKNOWN in the surname box. That worked fine, but when I tried to refine the search to 'birth in Devon, England', I got a list of DEVON surnames. When I just did 'England', I got a load of ENGLAND surnames.

Hi Barbara,

you probably used the normal "Search" page in WikiTree. For such a search like you wanted to do it, WikiTree+ is the tool to use. I created for you a list of all profiles that have "Unknown" and "Devon" in itself. For that, I went in the left column into "Text Search" (default text "Slovenija 18cen") and changed the text to "Unknown Devon". And then click on "Get Profile".

Thanks Jelena - that gives a lot of UNKNOWNs but only those that have errors or warnings attached to them. I've just managed to find a maiden name for someone who whouldn't have come up in this list.

You have to scroll down to the *second" "Search". The first one gives only the suggestions, that's true. But this is why I added the default text of the search field, to make sure you get to the correct one.

Yes - thanks Jelena - I've got it now.
