Israel Christian was baptised in Jurby, Isle of Man on 24 September 1712 to the Rector of that parish John Christian and his wife Catherine Cain. John Christian styled himself as the Reverend Mr Christian (sometimes spelled Xtian) in the parish register. [1712] Israel Xtian son of the Rev'd Mr. Xtian & Cath Cain Bapt the 24th Sept'b'r (Parish register image on FamilySearch)
Israel Christian was buried at Jurby on 3 December 1715: [1715] Isr'll Xtian son to the Rv'd Mr Xtian & Kath Cain bur'd the 3d Decemb'r (Parish register image on FamilySearch)
This Israel Christian cannot be the emigrant to Virginia. I suggest that this profile remains as the emigrant profile and is disconnected from the current parents. A new profile should be made for the infant Israel.
Neither is the infant Israel's father William Christian as is currently stated. I propose that the forename is changed to John.
This error comes from an article in the Isle of Man FHS journal of 1990 "TAKEN FROM JURBY NEWS [Jurby Parish, Isle of Man]" (see Israel's profile where it is copied in full) which was styled to read as though it were a newspaper article, and erroneously conflated the child baptised in 1712 with the emigrant and gave his father the wrong name. Unfortunately, this story is now widespread across the internet.
The Reverend John Christian and his wife did not have another son named Israel who could have been the emigrant.
Further baptism and burial entries for the children of the Reverend John Christian and Catherine Cain have been collected on this FSP
