Is anyone aware of a source for border changes of European countries - specifically Germany - throughout the years?

I am trying to understand the countries listed in census document for my ancestors. What I consider Germany is sometimes shown as Prussia, other times as France and even Hungary. Sources I've found generally cover periods after the World Wars. I'm looking for information further back. Maps would be great!

Try this WikiTree page: Germany Location Field Guidelines

In it are links to more detailed WikiTree pages for each era, which in turn list the various subdivisions with accompanying maps for that era.
