While researching information on 103rd OVI soldiers, I came across an interesting newspaper article. This was in the Cleveland Daily Leader 26 Jul 1862. I was working on the Lieut. Dudley A. Kimball profile. The article state that he was recruiting... "and very anxious to obtain recruits, and it is no wonder therefore, that the entrance to his office yesterday morning of an apparently vigourous young man, who desired to enlist, afforded him great delight. This would be soldier of the Union was rather below the required height, but made up for it by a muscular appearing frame. The Lieutenant was about to accept the new recruit when he suddenly made the startling discovering that he-she we mean- was a woman in disguise!" I put the full article on Lieut. Kimball's profile. The author adds in some humor in the rest of the article.
Anyone else have some interesting Civil War stories?
