James Sanderson Nicholson , formerly of the 15th King’s Hussars, became Bandmaster of the Royal Marines, Deal, Kent England in 1897.

The 15th Kings Hussars was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1759. He enlisted on 28th January 1880 to the Royal Marine Light Infantry: Chatham Division.

JS Nicholson was a talented clarinettist. He was promoted to Warrant Officer in 1900 and retired from the Corps in 1924.

Could the location be Hamilton, Ontario? I don't know of a Hamilton, New Brunswick.

There were two James Nicholson's born in NB who were both 4 yrs old during the 1871 Canadian Census.

One was Scotch in origin, Baptist religion, census at 03 Moncton f, Westmoreland 186, New Brunswick.

The other was Irish origin, Church of England, census at 04, Sussex k, King's 176 New Brunswick.

In the 1910 US Census, a James S. Nicholson who was b. Canada lived in Portland Ward 8, Multnomah, Oregon. His immigration year was 1892, parents b. England. James S. Nicholson was 45y, wife Estelle R. was 32y, born England, dau. Sarah E. was 12y, born California and dau Estelle J. 6y born Oregon.

Thankyou - I think his wife's name was Julia C born in Uxbridge, England. They were married in 1885 - haven't found out where yet
