I wanted to share this family photo of United States Inspectors certificate with the community. Location: Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. Date: 20 Apr 1882.

It's in remarkable condition for being from 1882 ... I wasn't able to read it ... is that like a certificate to be an inspector?

I don't have the slightest Idea I'm thinking of to drive the ship?

Thanks for sharing this image, Kenny.  I too have an an ancestor who was a "pilot" when pilots were in the shipping industry.  He was in Liverpool, England in the early 1800s and would pilot the tall ships safely into port.  Shipping pilots were licensed master mariners with extensive knowledge of the docks, hazards, depth of water, etc.  A really important job.
