You're right that the goal of WikiTree is to connect everyone. In some cases, profiles are private with ability to see and/or edit them restricted to the trusted list, but this is only for recent profiles to keep sensitive information from the public that might upset living relatives.
This is not one of those cases and the profile can be edited or connected to parents, siblings, spouses, and children. To be able to do this, you have to first sign the Honor Code in order to upgrade your membership - it's completely free, as is everything on WikiTree.
