Duncan Mackellar born 1795 in Sydney, son to Neil Mackellar, RN ensign (later Captain) and Sarah Cooley (convict)

He had at least two children, the first? two of which were baptized on the same day 24 Sep 1820 in St Pancras Old Church Middlesex

David Elmherst McKellar is present in Bengal in the 1840s

Duncan Mackellar, RN Lieutenant died in Sulkeah, Bengal, India 29 Jun 1850, aged 54  https://search.fibis.org/bin/aps_detail.php?id=1126468 possibly connected to shipyard there. Maybe buried in Howrah https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGLL-SMZ

Looking for any information about his life in India. I have no competency in East India company or similar records.

Not sure if this helps, but there is a marriage record for Duncan Elmhirst Mackellar on Find My Past.

On 14 May 1846 at Calcutta Fort William he married Harriet Emma Cullen Martindell, widow,  daughter of Charles Henry Penrose. Groom's father is Duncan Mackellar. Groom was a bachelor and mariner. Abode of both was Calcutta. Witnesses A. Rogers, Geo maxon, E Hailes, E L Maxon

They had a daughter Harriett Lillie Penrose Mackellar born 17 Nov the same year.

And a son Duncan Collie Mackellar born 23 Jun 1848, who died aged 1 years in Patna, Bengal in July 1849  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGLK-FWB

Duncan Mackellar (snr) must have been with them, he died a year later.
