Isaac Franks (1759-1822) served in the Continental army during the American Revolution.  His profile lists a wife, Mary Davidson, and one daughter, Sarah, all living in in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Sarah Franks (1789-1866) married John Huffnagle (1773-1857).  Was Sarah the only child of this patriot?  (Isaac, Mary, and Sarah are orphaned profiles.)

It looks like the couple had only one child, Sarah Elizabeth Franks.

When a Find A Grave record lists only one link to a child, it does not necessarily mean that there was only one child.  Rather, it indicates that only one child has a memorial that has ben linked to those parents.  This could be because the grave sites of other children have not yet been found, they have unmarked graves, or nobody has yet created memorials for them.  I would assume that Sarh is an only child from this lack of evidence.

There is reference to a Judge Samuel Davidson Franks 1783-1831 as son. I can find records regarding his judgeship, but not birth record.

If only our forefathers had asked more relationship questions on the census prior to  1850!

Death: Jan. 9, 1857

Died, at his residence in New Hope, PA, on the 9th of January, 1857, JOHN HUFFNAGLE, Esq., in the 79th year of his age. It seldom falls to our lot to record the demise of any man so very universally respected and regretted. A more exemplary and upright citizen were not amongst us. His precepts and examples were shining lights; his morality and religion were of the purest character. He was a Communicant of the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. John Huffnagle was born of German parentage, in the City of Lancaster, Pa. on 2nd of August, 1773. In early life, he was connected with the firm of Wister, Price & Wister, of Philadelphia, where he continued for five years. In 1801 he commenced business on his own account, as a wholesale importer merchant, at the corner of Fifth and Market streets, where he continued for forty years, after which he purchased that beautiful and romantic manor of the late Wm. Meris, Esq., where he enjoyed, in the evening of his days, all the comforts and happiness that earth can give. His son, (now Consul General for the East Indies,) from time to time presented him with the rarest anomalies’ of the Old and Lateran world, which were carefully arranged and displayed for the benefit and gratification of his numerous friends and neighbors. The community mourns a loss that cannot be supplied. He was perhaps, the very last of that old line of venerated Philadelphia merchants, and such were his habits of exact punctuality, that at this time of his death, he was not indebted to anyone the value of one cent. His death was the peaceful sleep of an infant, not even making an effort to retain life a moment longer.
