Could we extend G2G tags to include locations as well as surnames?

I like "Surname Tags" they seem to work well.

Would it work to extend them, is there any chance we could have tags but for locations / countries as well, only being a UK researcher I like to answer questions for England / Wales.

So being able to just click on UK based questions would be helpful to me and I assume others with their main interest areas for research in different countries / US states.

I realise I could do a search for England, but lots of people seem to just put a parish and county.

Good question, Peterson.

For reference, here are two related questions from months ago:

I'm inclined to think now that using location and category tags wouldn't be a bad idea.
We've already started using them for projects, e.g. "mayflower" or "presidents", which is essentially the same usage.
I don't think I'd recommend getting very narrow with them, e.g. "england" might work well but "west_midlands_uk" would not. If we were to decide we wanted to do more specific locations we'd probably want to do them in a normalized way so that you had to select the country and state.
We're now working on the ability to more easily watch tags. After we get this in place we'll have another way to judge the best usage of tags.

That sound really good, if we had the ability to watch tags, maybe to be emailed tags / questions that we had selected, our time could be focused on the areas we have specialist knowledge or interest.

Thank you

As of yesterday, you can now follow tags! See the "My Feed" tab above and

Although it hasn't touched location tagging yet, I started a discussion on standardization at "What tags should we use here?"
