Hello,  Looking for anyone who likes to work on Scotland genealogy.  Need help on the profile of Robert Samuel Wallace Anderson and spouses and children.  I have birth date of 1690 and death date of 1789.

Thanks,

There needs to be a bit more information.  Places and any information that you have can help. With middle names, the person is likely a notable and that takes a different type of research.

Thanks for your reply.  I forgot to give the profile #.  It is Anderson-1923.  It appears he was born in Scotland and then moved to Ireland and his family ended up in Pennsylvania.

I didn't know two middle names was important - that's interesting.

In Scotland, middle names weren't used very often in the time period of this profile. Some nobility had them (not all). When they show up like tin his profile, it is usually a warning sign that the person wasn't well researched and multiple people might have been conflated into a single person.

Hi, I've added the marriage record for Robert and Martha but didn't find a birth certificate.

Thanks, that is great!

The origins of the tree called Banasek-Snyder are not accurate. They all indicate the families were born in Scotland and moved to Ireland and then on to Pennsylvania. My suspicion is the early branches are cobbled together families from different areas of Scotland and the geography is wanting - e.g. Edinburgh, Angus: Glasgow, Ayrshire etc. It is also very unusual for a Scot to have four names. In fact it is very unusual for them to have three. I would be very cautious on this tree. The likely person to have married 1727 in Dumfries is Robert Wallace born 9 Feb 1691 in Dumfries not Glasgow, Ayrshire. (Glasgow is not in Ayrshire).

Thanks for your answer.  I am learning bits of Scottish genealogy.  I'm sorry I don't know regions of Scotland, at all.

Thanks for your help.

For Scottish genealogy research it is critical to understand the geography and the people. When you come across a new location, look it up on google maps. You'll quickly become familiar with geography. The people tended to stay in the general area they were born in. Some moved  but most didn't.

When I see a profile like Robert Anderson's I quickly question it. I'll post a more complete answer later.

I have to agree with Elizabeth. There are a lot of problems with this and related profiles. A squareman in Glasgow would likely stay in that area (also, Glasgow was in Lanarkshire not Ayrshire). Martha was supposedly born in Fife but a source on her profile says son Robert was born in England but the profile says Maryland. Scots didn't move that often.

I think the tree needs to be carefully worked with no assumptions that the tree, as is, is correct. The tree as is looks like name matching was done and no sanity checking done.

I have to agree with you on that her son being born in Maryland is out of place - I am going to look at that profile again.

Thanks!
