There is a casualty list (Ancestry) with the name Franz Carl Wilhelm Blume listed as wounded, taken prisoner, and returned to his regiment on 28 Feb 1871, but no home city given.  Record is for the 8th Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 10th Army Corps.  Great-grandfather Franz Blume (1838-1914, only name on confirmed records in Halle) listed as an invalide in 1871 city directory and later as a retired court messenger (bailiff?).  Probably lived in Herigen from about 1872 to 1884 before later records in Halle.

Which Halle is it:

  • Halle (Saale), Sachsen-Anhalt
  • Halle (Westfalen), Kreis Gütersloh, Nordrhein-Westfalen
  • Halle (bei Neuenhaus), Samtgemeinde Uelsen, Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim, Niedersachsen
  • Halle (Weserbergland), Bodenwerder-Polle, Landkreis Holzminden, Niedersachsen
  • Halle (Morsbach), Morsbach, Oberbergischer Kreis, Nordrhein-Westfalen
  • Halle (Raddestorf), Raddestorf-Harrienstedt, Landkreis Nienburg/Weser, Niedersachsen

Sorry, it's Halle (Saale), Sachsen-Anhalt.

I also note that the casualty's infantry unit was the 3rd Westphalian Infantry Regiment no. 16 in the X Army Corps (Hanover, Oldenburg and Brunswick).  Would someone from Halle (Saale) likely be in a regiment labeled Westphalian?
Here are a list of some soldiers of that unit who were killed in action.
