It would be easier for someone to try to help if you included a Country, city/town for his b, m, d.

Also do you know the date/approximate date of his birth?  Any names of spouses, siblings, children?  Any of these clues helps locate the correct person.

Hi, Do you by chance know where he died.  Where he lived.  When someone has died he may show up in the US Social Security Death Index, Although,  it may be too soon to have hit the index.  Anyone less than 100 yrs old will be hard to find online.  Your best bet is to try your question at the Vane Family Genealogy Forum with as much information as you know.  The more you give the more accurate the answer.  Try talking with relatives Aunts, Uncles, Grandmother, Grandfather, you have likely tried Mom and Dad.  Leave noone out talk to anyone who might have known him.

Is your JOHN GEORGE VANE the one that was born Aug. 24, 1911 in Elkham, Kent, England and died April 1991 in Hastings, East Sussex, England.  (This information was found on Ancestry.com ' "England & Wales Death Registrations")

If so. there is a LAVINGTON FAMILY TREE (owned by Jill Holmes) on Ancestry that has information on him.  This person states that his parents are ROBERT  WILLIAM VANE (born 1881 in Beddenden, Kent, England) and AGNES HELENA PATTERSON (born 1888 in Abassiyeh, Cairo, Egypt and died 1959 in Hastings, Sussex, England.
