I think this would help folks doing querries and keeping track of info better, especially when dealing with names changes upon arrival in the US from the old country.

Hi Therese,

Can you explain more what you mean?

For reference: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Name_Fields#Specific_Rules_for_Individual_Name_Fields

As you may know, we recently improved our search engine so it more comprehensively searches all the name fields. For example, a first name doesn't have to match what's in the Proper or Preferred First Name fields. Now it can match something in the Nickname, Middle Name, etc. Right now this change only applies to http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson but within a few weeks it will include FindMatches and the auto-search when adding people.

Thanks Chris!  I read through the naming conventions link you sent me and that helped a lot.  Plus, knowing that the search engine will match to name fields other than Proper or Preferred name.  I'll put my ancestor's Norwegian first and middle name in the Nickname field and then add his altered spelling to the Other Last Names field.
