G2G: New member introducing myself

Hello, I've hit a brick wall with the name Maritz from Lostorf in Switzerland. I'm looking for relatives of Benjamin Maritz, my 2nd great-grandfather. I'm focussing on the Maritz name from this village for the moment.

Hi, Jonnine

Thank you for being a Guest Member of WikiTree.  Check out the Membership info and consider upgrading.  WikiTree is always 100% free, and you might find many cousins in WikiTree to help you add profiles to the one-world tree.

At the top of your profile, you see your SURNAME entered.  Click the magnifying glass, and you get a list of all SURNAME profiles on WikITree, and you can sort alphabetically or by birth or death dates to see if family members are already on WikiTree.  You can put Benjamin in the First Name field with Maritz in the last name and see if he is here or if other members of the family may be.

I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Welcome!  We look forward to working with you!

Hi, welcome to WikiTree! This is a great place to try to find connections.

I would suggest adding some birth and death dates for your ancestor Benjamin mentioned above. That would be very helpful.

While you apparently need to go to at least a FamilySearch Affiliate Library to view these locked records, the following parish records from Lostof may be useful:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/451024?availability=Family%20History%20Library

That may be a bit much for you at first, but learning to read the script then understanding just enough basic latin and german vocabulary will allow you to understand the registers much faster than you think!

Good luck!
