G2G: Wanting G2G posts to generate email to Profile Managers

What will it take for g2g threads attached to profiles to generate an email to the profile manager(s) of said profiles?

"Ask a question" is under the Collaborate section of profiles, but if the profile manager is not notified, it's pretty difficult to collaborate, if the PM doesn't know a g2g has been posted about a profile they manage. This would help project volunteers as well.

In addition, how many "Wonderful WikiTreer" notifications are going unnoticed by the recipients because they receive no message that they've been acknowledged?

Since we DO get notified by email if someone responds to a G2G that we post (whether original post, answer or comment), surely the mechanism for a g2g-to-email notification exists.

Thanks for considering this request.

I see from related questions below, that I proposed this back in 2014, and Ellen Smith asked for it in 2018.

Maybe this time  :-)

And, if I could award a "star" question, I would (of course, I'd be too late and it would already have been done).

I absolutely agree with not knowing there's a Wonderful WikiTreer mention, as stated in the answers -- or a thank you for reaching so many points in appreciation.

I'll support this proposal. It is essential to managing profiles.

I think this is an excellent suggestion Jillaine!  As a former recipient of the Wonderful WikiTreer  - I felt bad when it took many days for me to realize someone had done that and I hadn't thanked anyone who had added their kind thoughts to the G2G posting.  It only came to my attention because it showed up in my weekly feed at one point.

Regards the Wonderful WikiTreer awards, I actually posted the template to profiles to let folk know they'd been so honoured.  {{Wonderful WikiTreer|g2g=xxxxxx}}
(Where xxxxxx is the number of the g2g "question".)

I stopped doing that when I was essentially "attacked" for making such a post.
Now I only post to people I know won't "attack" me for doing so.

And I thank you for that, Melanie. Without you doing that and without Wikitree having an email notification when g2g posts are associated with a profile, I would not have known.

I had the same experience as Greg.  It's really nice to get that recognition and also be able to respond promptly.  It seemed odd not to be notified.

The email notifications that G2G sends if someone posts or comments are part of the Q2A software, so there isn't something built-in for notifying if a WikiTree ID has been included in the post (adding the ID is a custom extension).

I do think this is a good idea though, and I've updated the to-do item to note that it's been requested again.
