Advice is to load GEDCOM's in small portions, since you have to verify every person in the GEDCOM import as not-a-duplicate before WikiTree will add any of them. I would start with a GEDCOM import of just a few people to see how it works before deciding on a bigger upload.

I think many people end up adding them manually over time instead. I did.

Are there more than 5000 people in the GEDCOM file? If so it cannot be uploaded as it. This is documented here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:GEDCOM

Note: GEDCOMs with more than 5,000 people cannot be uploaded. They need to be split up.
