Timothy Gregory (My grandfather and namesake) never spoke much about his life before meeting my grandmother. It wasn't until last year with some digging managed to learn where he was born.
He also never mentioned his military service; a request to NARA for his records confirmed what I thought. Unfortunately, his records were likely destroyed in the 1973 NPRC fire; I was sent a certificate acknowledging he served provided the length of service and rank on separation from the Army.
I also found his enlistment records which say was assigned to the "Panama Canal Dept." with a Branch Alpha Designation: "Cavalry" and Branch Code: Quartermaster,
Beyond that, I've hit a brick wall. Where would I find records about the Cavalry or Quartermaster Corp in Panama, particularly colored divisions?
