If I don't have pre-1700 approval, can the owner of a pre-1700 profile approve a merge?

I have taken the pre-1700 certification test a couple of times but, short of memorizing the answers to the questions, "gaming the test", I don't really feel expert enough to request certification. Perhaps I'm not clear enough about the qualifications.

However, when I see that my pre-1700 ancestor is clearly the same as an existing profile, can I request the profile owner to approve the merge? Or do have to receive the certification myself?

Profile Managers are the ones that approve merges of profile they manage.  After 30 days the merge is approved by default when the privacy level isn't restricted.  But your question made me wonder if a person that doesn't have the Pre-1700 certification creates a Pre-1700 profile and if that happened how could they access it.  Is that your situation?
I didn't realize that someone without certification could create a pre-1700 profile!

So I could propose a merge of two existing pre-1700 profiles and the manager of one of those could do it?

I'll have to work on that.

thanks.

Hi Katherine,

I appreciate your humililty but I don't think you should hesitate to Pre-1700 self-certify. It's meant to be educational, and it's mostly just about knowing the importance of careful ourcing and collaboration. You're clearly a careful, thoughtful contributor.

To answer your question, if you are on the Trusted List you should be able to approve a merge. You just can't complete it. (Or create or edit a Pre-1700 profile.)

I think that answers the question about creating a pre-1700 profile if yoy're not certified.  You can't.  I thought it may be possible but if you did as soon as a pre-1700 date was entered and save was clicked it would make the profile inaccessible.  A similar situation occurs when applying a post 1915 birth year to an orphan but in that scenario the profile goes on red and needs a staff person to attend to it.  Would it be possible that the same mechanism that prevents a non-certified pre-1700 person from creating a profile be applied to applying a post 1915 birth year to an orphan(like a warning the orphan needs to be adopted first)?
