G2G: I need help with a Mayflower link!

My 5th GGrandmother, Susanna Bacon Winslow is my link to the Mayflower. However, there is some discrepancy on who her grandparents are. One source says Josiah Winslow and Rhoda Church, another says Nathaniel Winslow and Thankful Randall (each have lines to Mayflower passengers). I’ve found three approved membership applications to the Society of Mayflower Descendants using Josiah and Rhoda, but they’re pretty old. Any help solving this question would be greatly appreciated.

The Seth Winslow who is the father of your Susannah Bacon Winslow, is the son of Nathaniel Winslow and Thankful Randall.  Applications purporting Seth to be the son of Josiah Winslow and Rhoda Church have been rejected by GSMD...once in 1952, and again in 2021.  Approved applications have also gone through your Susannah's sister, Wealthy Winslow (married to William Fallas).  I see Susannah's and Wealthy's lines going back to both Francis Cooke and Richard Warren.

Thank you so much for your response. Where could I find the source of this information?

There seem to be two separate Seth Winslows, listed in various Mayflower applications.
* Seth died Cazenovia NY 1822, s/o Nathaniel and Thankful
* Seth died 1810 in Massachusetts, s/o Josiah and Rhoda

The applications look like they are married to the same Sarah Farnham.

Set aside the problem of which Sarah for the moment. Then the question becomes which Seth is the father of Susanna, then you will be able to figure out which set of grandparents.

I can find no reference to Susanna (Bacon) Winslow in the silver book or the Winslow Memorial (Vol 2:701-2). Nathaniel & Thankful Randall married in 1758 and no daughter Susannah is listed.

Susanna would be their granddaughter, she was born to Seth Winslow  and Sarah Farnum.

OOOPPPSS!! My bad. I was looking for children not grandchildren. Winslow Memorial Lists Seth & Sarah Farnum Winslow and Seth's ancestry is: Seth, Nathaniel, Seth, James, Nathaniel, Kenelm. Sorry to say the line ends there. But to answer the question, she is the grandaughter of Nathaniel & Thankful.

The historian for your state Mayflower Society may be able to help. They have access to a lot of data bases

Some State Historians will do NO work on an applicant's behalf regarding research.  Some say, "I am not a genealogist." Each state has different guidelines as to whether an Historian will provide research assistance. Expecting a State Historian to do more than compiling an application with documents provided by the applicant, could lead to a grave disappointment.
