Nicholas Van Houten (Van_Houten-82) was, according to his marriage record preserved in the Tappan and Clarkstown Reformed Church marriage records, born in Harsimus, now part of Jersey City. (Oct 13, 1708, Klaes Van Houten, born at Hasymus under the government of New Jersey, Grietye Haringh, born at Tappan in Orange Co.) His older brother, Roelof (not yet on Wikitree as far as I could tell, at least is not connected to his parents) was also born at Harsimus according to his marriage record. (Oct. 17 1705, Roelof Van Houten, born at Haarsymus under the government of New Jersey, Marretye Blauvelt, born at Tappan in Orange Co.)

I am not able to find Harsimus among the birthplace choices.

Hi Richard. If you have good sources for a location, you can just type it in. There is no obligation to follow the suggestions for locations, which are often helpful but also often incomplete.

Note that the suggestions come from Family Search as as Jim said, they are not always complete or even correct.
