General question about identifying contributors of genealogical entries in the Boston Evening Transcript

I've wondered about this too. Usually, I take the information they provide as a 'hint' (particularly for Pre-1700 profiles) and go 'rooting around' the internet for a primary source.

I’ve solved my immediate problem, though not the general one. I was interested in an Evening Transcript entry by G.S.S. on one Duncan Stewart, whose daughter Catherine has been suggested to be the Catherine who married Paul Wentworth, son of the New England immigrant Elder William Wentworth. I have now found articles by George Sawin Stewart that deal with the same topic and with much the same content, making it clear that he is G.S.S.
