Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: Gordon Lightfoot and Co.

Singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot passed away recently, so we're checking out out connections to him in the Connection Finder next week. His songwriting abilities were immense, and so many, many artists through the years recorded and covered those songs. We're looking for artists who did so, like the also recently deceased Harry Belafonte ("Oh Linda"), to feature alongside Gordon next week.

Who else should we feature? We have room for eleven notables. We can't feature everyone who is nominated, but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

Our choice of features will depend partly on the notable person's CC7, i.e. their connection count within seven degrees. The more connections they have, the more likely it is for all WikiTree members to find a close and interesting connection to them. So, if you nominate someone, please help grow their CC7.

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

Take note that this is not the place to discuss why you think we shouldn't feature someone if those reasons are due to politics, actions, or opinions of those being suggested.  Mentioning things like their not being connected, their biography still needing work, erroneous information, etc. are all suitable for discussion here and an opportunity to correct those situations.

Help us plan Connection Finder themes for 2023 here.

Barbra Streisand "If You Can Read My Mind"

She needs some help from any Austro-Hungarian/Jewish or Russia researchers to help build her tree.

I'll have more, but my first idea is Ian Tyson, who died just a few months ago. He still needs to be connected, but is otherwise ready to go, & he & Sylvia covered my favorite Lightfoot song, "Early Morning Rain," if not others. Judy Collins, who is connected, also did Early Morning Rain.

Here are more artists that did Early Morning Rain & are already on WT (all are ready to go unless otherwise noted):

Billy Lee Riley (needs connection)

Chad Stuart (needs connection)

George Hamilton IV

Oliver

Ernest "Pop" Stoneman (needs photo, expanded bio)

Ronnie Hawkins (could use expanded bio, but has good connection number)

LiamPaddy, & Tommy Clancy (The Clancy Brothers- sadly still unconnected, need photos, expanded bios)

Tommy Makem

Jerry Reed

Jerry Lee Lewis

Eva Cassidy (could use expanded bio)

Thanks, Thomas.

How about the newly made accessible David (Callcott) Gahan, Lead singer of Depeche Mode. They have covered "Sundown" a number of times, often with a full Orchestra.

He isn't connected to the main tree yet, but I believe based on his genealogical records that he definitely can be.

Wow, lots of country singers and oddballs have done covers of Gordon’s songs. A little warbling from Telly Savalas anyone? How about the Zip Code Rapists? frown

Anywho, here’s my contributions.

French singer Joe Dassin sang several of his songs, translated into French:

It might be hard to get him connected though, but I love him so I still thought I'd give a shoutout to those versions!

His profile - and his father's - being private with no possibility of adding connections isn't going to help much.
Thanks, Lea and Isabelle.

A couple of additional ones for consideration. Note that I generally gravitate towards the deceased Notables as they're easier for all to collaborate on:

Bread singer-songwriter Jimmy Griffin passed away in 2005. Unfortunately, he's not currently connected.

Eagles singer Glen Frey is connected and would be a good candidate.

Karen Carpenter of the The Carpenters is connected and would be a good candidate.

Danny Seals of Seals and Croft is connected would be a good candidate.

Dan Peek of the band America would be another good one, if he were connected.

Same for Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac or Christie McVie also of Fleetwood Mac. Same for Bob Brunning also of Fleetwood Mac. Although Danny Kirwan of Fleetwood Mac is connected, he just has a relatively small CC7.

And one more who sadly is also unconnected. Eric Woolfson, co-creator of the Alan Parsons Project.

Oh shoot - I may have missed the theme point... my apologies. Well, they're bands from around his time, so I'll just save them for another day. Can't say for certain that they specifically played or covered his music. Oh well...
Thanks, Scott.
