G2G: Second World War RAF death discrepancy? [closed]

Hi, I'm hoping somebody can help clear something up for me.

I was working on a profile, using a family source that stated that Patrick McAleese was killed in 1942 when his plane crashed into the sea. I even found two sources confirming the year, including this record:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68FR-J6LY

But then I found two websites with conflicting information for the same person (same service number), putting the death a year later in 1943:

http://www.rafcommands.com/database/serials/details.php?uniq=DT567

https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2356605/patrick-mcaleese/

So now I'm left wondering if I've gone wrong somewhere... I'd be extremely grateful for any advice!

Edit: I'm starting to believe there may be a second Patrick McAleese and the family member who started this research has conflated them. I might go back to the drawing board!

Perhaps a transcription error?

Perhaps one is a reported date, the other confirmed.

Enter the name and just World War II in the Commonwealth war Graves Commission site. This provides two results, a seaman in 1942 and a flyer in 1943.

Thanks, I will check with family which one is correct and take it from there. It seems somewhere along the lines the two have got confused.

Edit: Never mind, the second record makes it clear as it lists his parents names and town.

Moral of the story: Always check somebody else's research before adding it to WikiTree!
