Here's the link to the baptism (#57). Looks like Joseph Orizane, maybe?

Thanks to all for your help. I originally thought this was the baptism for Eugene's brother Alphonse because the Familysearch tree for them has the birth years wrong. Once I realized he was Eugene, then Origene made more sense, and now Celeste has confirmed that with two more sources. It turns out that the family was pretty creative with names, Origene's brother was Joseph Louis Serenus.

Hi Paul, The name is Joseph Origene. He was still going by Origene when he married Philomene Blouin on 15 Feb 1886 in Ste-Croix, Quebec but sometime after his marriage he started using the name Eugene. I found him and Philomene on the 1891 Census of Canada in Roberval, Quebec and he was going by Eugene then.

Origane? Or it's more likely to be Origam-something, because the line over the 'm' stood for abbreviation.

A line over a letter, such as an “m”, often means “mm”; but it does depend on the language.

Edit … but not this time! Look at the names Agnès.
actually, that's an accent over the E, Origène.  A bit off kilter, but look at Agnès and find the same.

Joseph Origène

It is clearer on the right end of the second line than in the left margin.
