G2G: Acadie and Plaisance presence for this woman and family, needs input

Marie Madeleine Trumel married here around 1695 with René Bauché.  They have several daughters and one son (all profiles created from sources found).  From data by Archange Godbout, they went to Plaisance (Newfoundland) and Acadie.  One of their daughters is already linked to a huaband.

I have found evidence of another one married to Madeleine Bauché, Simon Rondel (signs Rondelle), but no trace of that name is found for Acadie.  Anybody know more from Acadian or Plaisance records.  Have found a few acts for Simon and Madeleine in Drouin, but no marriage.

Seems at least one grand-child was born in Martinique, if France project can point me to where I could find records?

HI, Danielle, checking Stephen White, he has Madeleine, first daughter of Marie Trumel, born in 1696 and married 3 times:

Jacques Bertet contrat juill 25, 1909 in Plaisance, Simon Rondelle 1721 (no location given) and Pierre Jouin dit La Joye Nov 8, 1739 in Louisbourg (register).

White does not have a page for Simon Rondelle.

Francogene has their first child born in 1724 in Québec. and at least two born in Louisbourg.

Landry has their first child born in St. Pierre, Martinique, second child in Québec and last two in Louisbourg.

Karen Theriot Reader has no entry for them, which is a shame because she always has the best sources.

The Marie Madeleine born 1696 is shown to have died in 1703 on WT.  That doesn't line up with the three spouses.  Perhaps the death record is for a different Baucher daughter?

I checked White's corrections and there were no changes for Marie Madeline to report.  I can send you screenshots of Whites pages if you'd like them.

I've wondered about that funeral record, it is actually imprecise, I went with Jetté's conclusion that it was hers, but I can certainly remove it.  This makes much more sense.  I've found a few acts for Simon and Madeleine in Drouin.  I'm certain Simon married into this family, there's an act I found that clearly names him as brother-in-law of Michel Lacombe, Madeleine Trumel's last child (with second husband).

Madeleine Bauché is progressing, finding various records, can somebody give me some pointers for more records, she has at least 2 children who married in Louisbourg.  Would be nice to get the citation for Stephen White as to her first marriage contract in Plaisance, haven't found anything to substantiate it.

We are in luck.  White has an entry for Jacques Bertet and Madeleine Baucher. He gives three children:

Marguerite born at Fort Pierre de Martinique about 1712

Jean Jacques (pr de son demi-frere Jean Pierre Rondelle Rg Louisbourg 1729)

Louise (mr de son demi-frere Jean Pierre Rondelle Rg Louisbourt 1729)

You could find 1729 in this register: https://nouvelle-france.org/eng/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=30843

Apparently he did not have more to go on for their dates.  MWLandry has them listed before Marguerite, White has them listed after.

thank you, that validates both those children.  Note that Jean Pierre is actually not the son of Simon Rondelle, who was absent for 2 years already, but son of Madeleine's 3rd husband.  Simon comes back after that.

do you have any data on the transfer of Plaisance to English hands in 1713?  Found confirmation that Jacques Berté / Bertet was there before then, wondering if they shipped off to Martinique after 1713.  And any data on records for Plaisance also?

This census in 1716 covered a small settlement in Plaisantin.  Bertet is not there.  http://www.acadian-home.org/census1716.html

Most of my Plaisance information has come from White's dictionnaire.  Here's where he mentions Plaisance specifically:

"unlike the detailed enumeration made in the small neighbouring colony of Plaisance in Newfoundland in 1698. (For more information about the early records of Acadia and Plaisance, see the bibliography of the present writer?s Dictionnaire g?n?alogique des familles acadiennes, Premi?re partie, 1636 ? 1714 [hereinafter DGFA-1] [Moncton: Centre d??tudes acadiennes, 1999], Vol. I, pp. xvii-xxv, xxxix-xl, xlv-l.) "  http://www.acadian-home.org/acadian-origins.html. In the bibliography he gives two entries but says the records are lost.

White also lists Martinique as a destination for Saint-Pierre and cites proceedings of the other islands, is given in Donald J. Hebert, Acadians in Exile. Possibly I have that book for a lookup.

From another site:  "By 1714 in order to remain French, most inhabitants of Plaisance and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon had to leave their homeland and settle on Isle Royale."

Here's a source for some people and also about the Leopard.  https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=aeu.ark:/13960/t1cj91p56&view=1up&seq=12

A good opportunity to review the Acadian presence in Plaisance :)

found record of the marriage contract, in summary form, now to see if I can find it in BAC-LAC

so daughter Madeleine's 3 husbands are now created, with everything I could find on them.  Have not created the children, will leave those to your side.  Am going to add data on Madeleine Trumel's other kids who married from various sources found.

Hi Danielle, I found a citation for Madeleine on Ancestry. Unfortunately, there is no media to look at and I cannot add the citation here. It is from the Dictionnaire Genealogique des Familles Acadiennes. It states that Madeleine was born on 28 Jan 1696 and baptized on 30 Jan 1696 in Ste-Famille, Ile d-Orleans. It also states that she was married 3 times. First marriage was to Jacques Bertet. The marriage contract was signed on 25 Jul 1709 in front of Notary Basset. No date is given for Jacques' death. Her second marriage was to Simon Rondelle v1721. No date is given for Simon's death. Her third marriage was to Pierre Jouin dit LaJoye on 08 Nov 1739. There is no mention of a marriage to Jacques Frecant on 03 May 1714 in Plaisance. I believe that marriage belonged to Rene's and Marie Madeleine's other daughter named Marie Madeleine who was the one born on 31 Oct 1700. Tanguay has Rene Baucher married 4 times. First to Adrienne Grandjean no dates given; second to Antoinette Renee Martin (a daughter also named Marie Madeleine was born of this marriage on 23 Sep 1684 in St-Laurent, Ile d'Orleans); his third marriage was to Anne Charland on 23 Feb 1688 and his fourth was to Marie Madeleine Trunet (Trumel).

hi Céleste, somebody misread Tanguay, there are only 3 marriages for René on there.  Tanguay image on René's profile (linked to his wife above)

The Frécant marriage is indeed for the other girl.  She's already all set up.

Now I just have to find some other sources to fix up Madeleine.  Anything on the other siblings in this family?

The Tanguay page I looked at was from Vol 2, Sect 1 and it has 4 wives listed for Rene but I just found his Individual PRDH and it lists 3 wives. I did find a citation which is linked to Catherine Baucher but it is under the name Marie Morency. It is her burial record dated 09 Feb 1703 in Notre-Dame de Quebec. It names her father as Morency and her mother as Marie and states that she was about 6 years old. I am not sure that this is actually Catherine's burial record or someone else's. I found Antoine's (Rene and Adrienne Grandjean) baptismal record. He was born 19 Jul 1673 and baptized on the 23rd in Ste-Famille, Ile d'Orleans. I'm still looking for the others.

not worked on the other wives of René yet, started with this one.  There are a number of children from all marriages.  Total of 19 known according to Jetté.

have added all her children and their known spouses, over to Acadie project for subsequent generations.  Put in as many sources as I could find, outside census records.
