G2G: Many categories needed (maybe)

I have been working on a personal project to commemorate Memorial Day.  Along with some very generous members who joined me to work on this, I am adding profiles for Wild Weasels - veterans who were in the Air Force program of that name.  Here's where help is needed from Categorization and/or Military and War projects:

  1. I added the category "Wild Weasels" as a subcategory of United States Air Force Groups.  If that is not the correct place for it, I would like someone who knows where it belongs to move it.
  2. As profiles are added, we are adding categories for birth/death locations, cemeteries, and the new Wild Weasel category.
  3. In some cases, we know the units the person was assigned to, but either it's too hard for us to find them in the category structure or they don't yet exist and we don't know exactly where to put them within the structure.
  4. In some cases, we know the wars during which they served, medals and other honors they were awarded, and whether the POW and MIA categories apply, but aren't sure where to find them or whether to use them.  It would be great if someone could check out the profiles that are there now and add whichever of these categories are appropriate, as well as an appropriate sticker, if there is one.  We can then use these as examples to be able to do it ourselves as we add more profiles.

The known units in which Wild Weasels served are:

3rd WWS, 12th TFS, 13th TFS, 14th FS, 17th WWS, 18th TFW, 20th FW, 21st TFS, 22nd FS, 23rd TFS, 31st TFW, 34th TFW, 35th TFW, 36th FS, 37th TFW, 39th TFS, 44th TFS, 48th TFS, 52nd TFW, 55th FS, 56th FW, 57th TFS, 58th FS, 63th FS, 65th TFS, 66th FWS, 67th TFS, 69th GWW, 77th FS, 78th TFS, 79th FS, 80th TFS, 80th TFS, 81st TFS, 85th TFS, 85th TFS, 86th FW, 90th TFS, 116th TFW, 124th FG, 128th TFS, 148th FW, 149th FS, 157th FS, 169th FW, 179th FS, 182nd FS, 189th FS, 190th TFS, 196th TFS, 333rd TFS, 354th TFS, 354th TFS, 355th TFW, 357th TFS, 375th TFW, 388th TFW, 389th FS, 390th ECS, 414th FWS, 419th FW, 421st FS, 422nd TFS, 433rd TFS, 451st AEW, 452nd TTS, 453rd TTS, 454th TFS, 462nd TFS, 469th TFS, 480th TFS, 482nd OG, 494th FS, 522nd FS, 533rd FS, 555th TFS, 561st TFS, 562nd TFS, 563rd TFS, 607th AOC, 613th TFS, 832nd AD, 3552th VSF, 4404th CW, 4537th FWS, 4538th FWS, 6010th TFS, 6010th TFS, 6234th TFW, and 7081th AGS

If someone can tell me where the categories for these units belong, we could then add them to profiles as the profiles are added to WikiTree and we could add categories for the units that are missing as profiles that need them are added.

THANX!!!!

We don't do unit categories with acronyms, and we don't usually create squadrons unless they were the independent squadrons.

I'm the M&W leader so I'll be happy to help guide the category set-up. Give me a day or two, as it's a holiday and I'm out working in my yard and doing other fun yard things.

Expansion of acronyms, as best I can give you, are:

AD = Air Defense
AGS = ?
AOC = Air Operations Center
CW = Combat Wing
ECS = Electronic Countermeasures Support
FS = Fighter Squadron
FWS = Fighter Wing Support
GWW = Group, Wild Weasel
OG = Operations Group
TFS = Tactical Fighter Squadron
VSF = ?  (best guess - Virtual Strike Force, which would be drone pilots)
WWS = Wild Weasel Squadron

I have no idea which, if any, were independent.  I'm equally clueless about what you're going to want to do about categorizing these, but am thrilled out of my mind to be able to leave it to you to cope with!  No rush - I've still got over 470 profiles to research and create.

Thanks.  I'll create these as often as I can get to it.

You'll find them here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:United_States_Air_Force_Squadrons%2C_Vietnam_War

or

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:United_States_Air_Force_Wings%2C_Vietnam_War

I have created 3 or 4 already.

oops - careful with those.  A small number of them may not have been part of the Vietnam War.  They could have seen action in the Iraq or Afghanistan Wars or Kosovo or even no war - just based in the US or Japan or Germany or elsewhere.  Some have been continuous throughout the time, even from as far back as World War II.  The only thing I can say about all of them for sure is that they are Air Force units.

I'm trying to find them in Wikipedia when I create them. The profiles should have time frames of the service, so then the war/not war category would be needed.

Natalie, I saw a couple of them that you added, so I started to use them on profiles to which they apply.  I also stepped out a bit and added a few more that I didn't find already there, but did not create the category pages because I wasn't sure where they belong (I added ", United States Air Force" at the end but didn't add ", Vietnam War" after that because at least some of them weren't there), so I'm leaving them for you to decide what their correct names  and their parent categories should be.  You'll find them in red on Doyle Baker's profile.  THANX!!!

The red cats have been addressed and added to the AF structure.
