Hi Connectors

Here we are again after a short break with the German Connectors Challenge. Since Jelena is very busy at the moment, Paige and I will be bringing you new challenges over the next few months.

This month we focus on birds of prey. We have selected profiles whose translated last name means bird of prey

  • Vulture (Geier): Franz Karl Geier from Baden is connected to more than 100 people but not yet to the global tree
  • Sparrow Hawk (Sperber):  Helen Sperber was born in Franconia and is already connected individually to 27 people
  • Hawk (Falke): Louise Falke is from Wolmirstedt, then Saxony, now Sachsen-Anhalt (+100 connections)
  • Eagle (Adler): Rosalia Adler lived in German speaking areas of Bohemia (+100 connections)

Have fun!

Ladies, you gotta be kidding me ... awesome ... and with Baden ... and without Danzig! Great job!
Helen Sperber migrated to Pennsylvania and had several children born there. This would be a good opportunity to connect her for somebody who is more experienced with US instead of German sources:-)
Maybe be bold and tag the question as Pennsylvania as well

Franz Karl Geier: As far as I see it, he's connected only to 31 people, a lot being from Unterscheidental and Wagenschwend.

The latter has three connected people: https://plus.wikitree.com/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=Wagenschwend+Tree%3Dconnected&MaxProfiles=500&Format=

One of them being a GEIER!

Looks promising:-)

Concerning the connections: I did a last name search for Geier and than clicked on "unconnected". That´s where it shows the number of +100 connections. But who knows how that works...
That feature I didn't know. Nice. But that shows all unconnected Geiers, not the people connected to this island. For this, you need to search in WikiTree+ for the ID, then on the right it shows unconnected ... and if you click there, you see all the profiles connected to this one.

One could also look at the ancestors of Uwe Müller instead ;)

Oh, if you connected Louise Falke, that would mean that so many profiles would leave my unconnected list. I don't find a connection there. That would be a real Random Act of WikiTree-Kindness.

How about [[Habicht-15|Edward Louis Habicht]] (hawk)?

Right, this bird was still missing:-)

Born in Prussia and died in Michigan. Who wants to take this challenge?

This callenge was mentioned in the newsletter, yay!

Also, there was a toot on how to see all connected profiles to an unconnected profile:

Again Geier:

There are at least three people from Limbach (parish to which Wagenschwend belonged), who passed away in the US:
- Louis Riegel
- John Fritz
- Henry Noe

Some more were from places close to Wagenschwend, Limbach:
- Adam Reichert, Balsbach (next to Wagenschwend)
- M. Flemming, Balsbach
- Fred K*schnofski, Laudenberg (next to Balsbach)
- Helene Fiergolla, Laudenberg
- Hermina Kolbe, Laudenberg

Oh and the Noe from Balsbach we would already have as connected profiles ...

I meanwhile managed to get my hand on sources for the Limbach parish, but I don't know how much time I will have to dig into them this month. I would love to share them. Please reach out.

Also a big thank you to Lucy Selvaggio-Diaz for adding some ancestors to him.

This month is for me packed with a lot of non-Wikitree activities. This means no time to help with the Limbach records. I´ll let you know if I have some more time:-)

Maybe someone can help me with my Geier relatives.  My great great grandfather George Geier was born in Alsace - Lorraine in 1816.  He married Mary Rouft from Wurtemberg, Germany and immigrated to the US although I don't know when.  However, their last child born in Alsace was in 1851 and this was my great grandfather Michael Geier,  and they were living in Cass County, Indiana in the 1860 census.  George's citizenship papers are found in the Logansport, Indiana clerk's office in the Index to Citizenship Papers, Cass County, Indiana 1837-1910.

Perhaps someone can find out more about George Geier & Mary Rouft and link them to Franz Karl Geier.

i created a German notable profile as part of the South Africa challenge. can someone from Team Germany

1) add the appropriate categories to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mosenthal-6 (his son is a notable too)

2) i have no clue what the source for his father and grandfather says, hopefully it is okay.

3) an interesting summary about German brothers who move to South Africa and start a farming and business empire - see first source here and it sort of ties into your theme - they start an ostrich farm https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mosenthal-10
