My great  great grandfather Wilhelm Heinrich Kruse migrated to Tasmania in 1885 and my family here in Tasmania would like to know more about his family in Germany.  We do know that he was born in Kiel in 1840 (died 1918) and worked as a merchant seamen. We also don't know anything about his wife Anna Maria Kruse (1840-1923) who migrated with him and their 3 children; Wilhelm Heinrich (1872-1918), Anna Sophia Helena (1874-1964), Meta (1876-1944). They sailed out of Hamburg, Germany arriving in Hobart on the 10th July 1885 on the ship S.S. Procida. There is more information on our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kruse-Family-History-Huon-Valley-Tasmania/1587339894854132?notif_t=page_new_likes

For records prior to 1874 you need to check church records. For Kiel an address to begin with would be:

Archiv des Kirchenkreises Altholtstein
Eggerstedtstraße 13
24103 Kiel
www.kirchenkreis-altholstein.de

You will have to look for church book entries for before 1875 (actually end of 1874). The church documents for Kiel are stored in Neumünster evangelic archive. Here is their adress: http://www.kirchenkreis-altholstein.de/kontakt/adresse/institutionen/institution/archiv-altholstein.html . They should do research and send copies for a fee. Try to find out as much as possible before asking them to do the research because the costs vary depending on how long they need to find the entries (I would ask them to find the baptism entries of the children whose birth date and place are known and the marriage of their parents to find out as much as possible with small effort)

For the youngest child (born 1876) there should be an entry in the town archive as well. I am there on a regular basis, so e-mail me if you want me to look for her. It should at least give the exact birth date and the mother's maiden name and open possibilities to find out more (like an adress that allows to ask in the archive of the registration office or the opportunity to look in adress books and death registers (to find out if the parents or any young children died 1875 or after)
