There is an ancestral file entry for Mary Stevenson Cassatt that shows her maternal grandmother as Mary Stevenson born 1792 who died 1820.

Any occurance of a surname as a middle name indicates that the middle surname exists at some point in the matriarchal line. If her father was not a Stevenson Cassatt then it could possibly be that her mothers maiden name was Stevenson.

Basically you should be looking for a marriage between a male Cassatt and a female Stevenson.
