Hello: I could use some help with adding the right sticker for this profile John Nelson . He seems to have served under several different commands; not sure if he was militia or what. But certainly a varied career, and wounded with a bayonet, as well. I am trying to improve the profile. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks so much if you can help me out! Rebecca

Rebecca, I added the 1776 Sticker and the DAR Sticker. I often add a flag. If you would like a flag for a background or primary photo, let me know.

Thank you, Alexis! That is awesome... John Nelson is still an open profile so please feel free to keep contributing as you can. I hope to tweak his bio a bit and add some more details in time, (as I discover them) and also for Lucy, his wife. Your help is appreciated.yes Rebecca

Rebecca, not everyone likes the backgrounds as much as I do, so please feel free to remove what I added if you feel it is too much.

Hello Rebecca, most of his service would have been in the North Carolina Militia. His service under General Caswell, and General Harrison would be part of the North Carolina Militia. This probably covers his time when he recruited troops in the state.

When he was sent to serve with General Gates and General Morgan, he would have been with the Continental Army, which consisted of regiments from several states. He was still probably assigned to the North Carolina Militia. Just part of a larger force of regiments from several states. To capture his service in these campaigns, you could add him to the battles he participated in, but the skirmishes are not listed as categories, and will probably just have to be explained in the biography.

Rebecca, I have added a source that should help: From Carolana.com, we can see that several John Nelsons served in North Carolina.

https://www.ourfamtree.org/soldier/search.php?state=NC&fname=John&lname=Nelson&rank=&regiment=&keywords=&btn=Search

Of the six soldiers described, some may be the same man (duplicates), but the second man is identified as "born on 7/9/1755 in Cumberland County, NC" and this is a good match for your John Nelson. He actually served as a Captain in Caswell County (Hillsborough District). If you'd like, you can make the sticker more specific to his service, with "unit=Caswell County Regiment, North Carolina Militia, American Revolution | rank=Captain".
