G2G: David Franklin Hicks (1844 - 1917) 4th Regiment, Virginia Cavalry Co. F

Question

Hi Wikitreers,

I would like collaboration in our Civil War Veteran of the South. 

He enlisted at an unknown date into the 4th Virginia Cavalry Company F and mustered out at an unknown date. He needs a cemetery category created for Hicks Cemetery #2, Goochland County, Virginia, USA unless it’s already on Wikitree but I’m unable to find it. 

(He needs his civil war sticker updated)

I am in possession of his grand daughter Mary Ida (Hicks) Trexler (1907 - 1989) antique Bible in my collection which has many momentos including a lock of woven hair etc. 

who was this veteran? What was his rank? His service record? 

Any collaboration in his genealogy is appreciated and bio improvement etc

Note: it’s worth noting both Mary Ida (Hicks) Trexler’s grandfathers maternal and paternal were veterans of the CSA

While the handwriting is not the best, it says that he entered military service in August, 1863, in Henrico County, Virginia and that he left service in April, 1865, at Appomattox.  He was a private and his ordinary occupation was as a carpenter.

To see a photo of him is really amazing and a handsome photo in full uniform doesn’t get any better than that! Joining in 1863 at the height of the war knowing how many casualties were pouring in already was a big decision I’m sure for him and his family.

Looking at the NPS Roster don’t see him listed. Interesting he might have had a misspelling of his name in roster
