Whew, what a ripper ... [closed]

I've just had my greatest challenge yet. My 5th great grandfather William Dunthorn was baptised at 19 (with no parents listed), married four times and had eleven children in four different places. He had several siblings, all of whom were baptised late in life so I have a complete dead end here.

Hope I don't find too many more like him, but since my ancestor was child #10 I'm sure glad he was persistent.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I like to hear about other people's experiences, both challenges and triumphs. Wow, William was born in the early 1700s, I don't think I have anyone that I've verified that goes that far back. And yea, he was persistent!
What a feat to sort all that muddle out! Well done!

There are various Dunthornes in that area, just trying to see if one might have left a Will.

Found this marriage licence, could be related or even the father. Will see if I can find anything

My God, I think you've found it! Same town, right year. Thank YOU!!
I've added the parents and sibling, and the parents have actual records so I can continue back further. Major help, thanks again.
There was another Dunthorne, John having children around the same time so I would mark the parents as uncertain. I couldn’t find any wills to help verify anything unfortunately and I had a good search of the local and National Archives.

I do think they may be a distinct possibility though and are very likely closely related.

There were a number of other Dunthorn families producing children at the time in Cranworth: Will & Eliz, John & Susanna, Tom & Susanna, Tom & Eliz, Will & Anne. But they all baptised their children promptly and Richard & Katherine evidently didn't.

Nope, it's pretty sure to be right.
Great, I’ll see if there is a Rushbrooke Will sometime soon, there might be, can’t remember if I looked or not at the moment.
