Southern Cross Stars July 2023 Connect-a-Thon Team Chat

Question

The Southern Cross Stars are in for the July 2023 Connect-a-Thon. Come sparkle with us! Just answer the July Connect-a-Thon Registration Post and say that you'd like to join up with the Southern Cross Stars. The Connect-a-Thon goes from 14 - 17 July. If you have any questions about the Thon, or during the Thon, you can chat with us on this post. If you're not part of Discord and would like to join up, we also have a Southern Cross Stars Discord Channel. We especially welcome you if you are new to WikiTree or to Connect-a-Thons. Starting time across Australia are 10pm AEST (Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney etc), 9.30 pm (Adelaide, SA, NT), and 8pm Perth and Western Australia.

Hi Gillian and everyone else. I’m in Sydney and would like to join your Aussie group. I’ve been on WikiTree for almost 10 years now and recently came across some links to more people that I’ve loaded into my old database with a really basic web design that I set up probably 20 years ago

Am slowly porting it over to here but if I can somehow dedicate that weekend to the connect a thon it should boost the team numbers a little

Has been interesting so far sometimes linking people already on the tree. One occurrence a few days ago was 3 individuals - 2 males and a female - they were husband and wife and child. All not connected but I had the proof of their connection with further links to be certain they were the proper individuals

Should I do a sign me up and mention southern cross as the team id like to join ?

I saw a comment on the main connect a thon post about the best way to cite your info, can someone point me, or give me a yell either on here, facebook (easily found) or messenger, I’m not a big fan of discord but do have an account - I’ll go look for the group chat

Is there anyone in this group working on connecting the Inglis family in Australia back to Scotland?  I've been working on my Inglis ancestors in Fife circa 19th century and there are some unsourced or poorly-sourced family trees in the ether that suggest a branch of the family went to Australia a generation or two earlier.

Hello Nancy, thanks for your message. I'd suggest posting a separate question on the G2G about the Inglis family, to get the attention of people researching Inglis families in Australia. Adding a link to a key ancestor will help people investigate if their Inglis family is the same as the one that you are interested in.

I've just signed up for the Southern Cross Stars again. I won't be able to contribute as much this time due to work commitments (the hazards of a tax consultant in July!), however I will do as much as I can.

Oh that's fabulous! Have a great season!! I had 2 franchises in Qld for 20 years, absolutely wonderful years, had some great times with many special people from all over Australia. Totally get that you won't be thinking too much about WT at the moment!
