If you have a followup question why do you use answer instead of comment/

I see alotta of questions marked answered with a number  but  don't actually have answers, just hav followup ?

It makes people think theres an answer when there really isn't.   Shouldn't those follow-up questions be put in comments. So the answer part stays 0?

I got really exited thinking I got some help on my ancestors only to find out - not so - and wonder if someone will thinks its already been answered and not open the question.

Do i post the q? agin or just hope someone else looks?

Ps  i really appreciate the help  - and the follow q's make sense - just don't know if i should repost when it looks like its answered and its not.  thanks so much
I agree with you. I am less likely to look at a question that has 1 or more answers than one with no answer.  And, yes, the one answer often is asking the poser of the question for more info.
I also agree - I often view just the ones with a zero answers and prefer follow-up questions be added as  comments.  It's better than having the same question reposted several times.  Just an opinion!

BUT, apart from my comment I also have an answer for you!

You don't get points for 'comments' - only 'answers' - I think!

Oh, dear - maybe this should be a comment and not an answer?!

There isn't any excuse for giving an answer instead of a comment when there is a check box below - "Convert this answer into a comment".  However, I don't know if this function works 'cos I haven't tried it.

It's been a long day...

But sometimes making a comment can help the person who is asking the question find the answer, in which case is the comment not part of the answer and why we can have more than one answer.

Start of  a long day here...

Not sure what points are - and if there important in someway???  So if you skip questions with an answer number - and the poster didn't really get an answer, just a question.  Should I repost the question?

Re> Not sure what points are - and if there important in someway??? <

Here at wikitree we have an honor code, One of the points of this code is to give credit for the work others have done.

Points are all about just that, giving credit, along with letting other members know if a person in new or like  Kevin (8,270 points) has put in a lot of effort helping others.

However if a person wants to remain anonymous when asking or answering a question, then perhaps the points system would become pointless.

I think we get 100 points for answering a question 50 for asking and none for making a comment? Which seem odd after all making a comment is still making an effort to help even if you don't know or cannot find the answer.

Maybe this needs looking at Wikiteam.

Ah, that sorta explains 'no comment Frank!'
