Global replace

Several people have cited my defunct website as a source for their managed profiles. Consequently there are at least dozens, if not hundreds, of dead links. I have tried to contact the people who have done this, with mixed succcess..

The most obvious solution would be to do a global search and replace, if that is technically possible?

The defunct website is https://sites.google.com/site/kangarooislandpioneers

The working website is https://sites.google.com/site/kipioneers

Hello David,

Hope your day goes well.

Thank you for this update regarding 'linking' to KI Pioneers web pages.

I have 'adopted' the already created WikiTree page for Martha Kennedy - BEARE-70 - and the 'old' KI Pioneers link was with it at that time.

I'll correct this now, and if and when I come across other 'adopted' pages that are using the old link, I will update them too.

Best wishes!

Mark

Actually there may be less than 40 profiles containing the defunct link.

A method to find profiles with particular content:

1/ Log on to SiteComber.com

2/ Enter in the “For” field your target text, in this case you would enter: kangarooislandpioneers.

3/ Enter in the “Within” field your target website, in this case you would enter wikitree.com

Of course, those familiar with the intermediate methods of search engine queries will get their results without the use of SiteComber.com.

Thank you, George,. I wasn't aware of that simple tool.

It seems you might be right about only 40 profiles affected.

I shall go to each of them and personally correct them.

(Thank you Mark Ridgway for your post - well done for adopting orphaned profiles. I guess the problem of inheriting bad data, is one of the risks of adoption.)
I'm pleased to report that George was right and that there were only about 40 profiles affected, most of them orphaned. I have now manually corrected them, apart from a few whose profile managers I have contacted to do the same.

Thanks for your help, everybody.

This is a splendid example of a task that a robot could be created to perform.  Please see the discussion of one that Jonathan Wainright created at:  Is there a simple way to take advantage of a bot on wikitree?

I'll bet that Jonathan would be delighted to set one up to do this task.
