Wonderful news.  I hope to track the Native Americans who lived in Totusky Creek, Virginia.  The location where my 9th Great Grandfather settled when arriving to Virginia in the 1600's.

Oh, Maggie, thank you for posting this.  What absolutely wonderful news!!!

I suppose the reason I am sooooo excited by it is that I met the tribe's chief, Kevin Brown, when I lived in Virginia.  I had visited the Pamunkey reservation a few times and Mr Brown had also one a presentation at the King George County Historical Society, to which I belonged (and still do, even though I can't participate actively from 750 miles away).

By the way, the reference in the article to MGM planning a casino in Prince George's County doesn't mention a very key fact - that county is not in Virginia - it is in Maryland, which already permits a certain amount of gambling.  The Pamunkey reservation is at least 60 miles from the nearest point in Prince George's County, which is also across the Potomac River from Virginia!

This might be splitting hairs, but the Pamunkey Tribe is part of Powhatan's federation of tribes in eastern and central Virginia. The Powhatan federation was so-named because of the early colonists interaction with Chief Powhatan who was the "head" of the federation. Originally his seat was modern Gloucester County, but because of the colonist's encroachment he moved his city west to the falls on the modern James River. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDQQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nps.gov%2Fjame%2Flearn%2Fhistoryculture%2Fthe-powhatan-indian-world.htm&ei=_OmXVZbZD8Pv-AGDhIHYBw&usg=AFQjCNF12rkvi54zc2T1c2sRBWiefYcaYw&bvm=bv.96952980,d.cWw
I believe that some of the other tribes in the federation were the Matta, the Po, and the Ni.  These tribes each lived on a stream, all of which fed into the same river, named the Mattaponi river.  The Potomac tribe was also part of the federation ... I think everyone has heard of the river named for them!

Pocahontas Descendants or related by marriage In my profile shows that I am  27 degrees from Pocahontas Rolfe Pwith Pocahontas in relation,

Definitely not by blood. Go to the your profile page at ...

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Eymin-1

At the bottom you will see that it says you are 27 degrees from Pocahontas. Click on her name and the next page will show exactly how you are related ... but of course, you would need to verify that all info in the line is correct. There you can see where the marriage links occurred.

I am 22 degrees from Pocahontas (also not by blood). By the way your immigrant Gauther is not related to my immigrant Gauthier.

Gauthier is a fairly common french surname and there were over 20 unrelated Gauthier immigrants between 1600 to 1900 to North America from different regions of France.
