I have just extablished Grandparents who were both born in Indiana.

:*James Lawrence Allen.b1824..m Lucy Waring 1844 in Indiana. can anyone assist on sourcing a couple generations of Allens that are very likely in Quaker records?

Potential  father of James is Joseph Shepherd Allen b Jun 9 1783 Somerset PA; died Dec 13 1847. Tippecanoe County IN. I suspect at least one other child John b 1816.

Parents that I suspect for Joseph would be John Allen b Jun19 1756 Chester PA; d. Oct 3 1837 Franklin I....mother of Joseph in my notes would be Amy Rebecca Shepherd b Oct 19 1763 in Menallen, York, PA ; d. Oct 1817 in Brookville, Franklin, IN.

I see parents in WikiTree that would appear to match up with Amy Shepherd b1763 the marriage site and date match exactly are there any records that could answer?

:*Solomon Shepherd

:*Margaret Blackburn

Would like any assistance on the parents of John Allen b Jun19 1756 Chester PA.

I already have as direct ancestors out of Chester the following 3 generations of Allens

James Allen-2757 b1665; John Allen-2761 b1708 ; & Tamar Allen-2763 b1733

Thanks in advance for any sources or info

Regards, Marty

Hi Marty,  I work with the early Pennsylvania Quaker families.

Do you have a known connection to the Tamar Allen-2763 line from Chester?  Have you looked at the information from the Blackburn Family Association?

The Blackburn Family Association has John Allen (1756-1837) that married Amy Shepherd as desending from John Allen-1484 & Amy Cox-546

Lines as recorded by the Blackburn Family Association:

John Blackburn Jr.

> Margaret Blackburn

> > Amy Rebecca Shepherd & John Allen (1756-1837)

> > > Joseph Shepherd Allen (1783-1847)

> John & Amy (Cox) Allen

> > Joseph & Deborah (Hill) Allen

> > > John & Amy Rebecca (Shepherd) Allen

Does this look like the right family?  I'm looking through the Quaker records and have these families associated with two meetings (so far).  This information is from a few different places, I haven't gone to see what original documents are actually available.

1713 : Newark MM - John Allen accepted from Ireland

1719 : Newark MM - John Allen reported married to Amy Cox

1763 : Menallen MM - marriage of Solomon Shepherd & Margaret Blackburn

Then I got distracted creating the category for the Menallen Monthly Meeting.  The Burial Ground at Menallen Friends Meeting is a National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site.  The Blackburn family is associated with their early history.  Interesting stuff.

I put some notes on Solomon Shepherd-2333 and I'm working through a few more links before dinner for connection back to John Allen.
