How do I get places added to the UK Project?

Most of the people that have added here will have places that are not yet in the UK project, though all are in the UK.

In the coming months, as I start to work through my uploaded ancestors and add more, I can see that there are going to be many places that I want to use that are not already showing for the UK project.

What is the best way to get them added?

Also, should a person just have one location project tag? EG my granda Bill, Maggs-35 was born in Hetton-le-hole where he lived for the first half of his life, but then spent the 2nd half in Gateshead.

Hi Steve, This is not a prblem.  We are slowly but surely adding more UK place names. In the meantime just let me have a note (or list) of the towns/villages and Counties you are interested in and categories for them will be added.   I can also talk you through the process if you would like to add them yourself.

Hi again Steve,   In my haste to reply I forgot to answer your second question !! Normally the category is for the place of birth.   If however you strongly associate the person with somewhere else then feel free to add a second category.

Hi Maria, sorry for the delay in responding, but work keeps getting in the way of life ;-)

I think that I would like to be able to able to add towns/villages in the UK myself as a quick check seems to show that most of those I need are not there yet, but I would like to double check my data as i enter it.

I think that I will end up with 2nd categories for a few people as they were born in one area and then had migrated before adulthood and so were more likely to be associated with the 2nd location. I'll have to give Maggs-35 some thought.

Thanks for the Project badge.

Steve
Hi again Steve.   If you send me a private message from my profile with details of the first one/few you'd like to create, we'll take this forward.   I've sorted Magg-35 for you.  If you click on the link to Hetton-le-Hole you'll see the link I've added to this to Category:County Durham to "create" your new category.
