Wondering if the Keyes family in Mississippi, Louisiana, and ultimately California is related to the northern strain (Mass, etc.). I know that we came from Ireland in the 18th century and settled in South Carolina around 1800.

My ancestor Joshua Keyes was born 1775 in North Carolina.

I don't know his parents.

But I have a DNA match with someone whose great great grandmother Mary Jane Kyes' ancestry can be traced back to immigrants in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the early 1600's.

Her family locations are in the north, moving from Massachusetts to Illinois, while my family locations are in the south, from the Carolinas to Mississippi, and there are no obvious connections.

One hypothesis to explain the DNA match is that Joshua Keyes' lineage does indeed connect to the Massachusetts Keyes.
