Emergency Block?

Question

Hi, I was trying to send a response to a WikiTree member using the emails associated with her inquiry but keep getting an Emergency Block! I haven't used this site for awhile but have a huge family on Ancestry.com that eventuall will make its way into WikiTree. Because I haven't entered any information, I do not understand how I could have angered someone. And, frankly this is the first request I've received and it is spot-on with my information.

Current IP address is 99.157.229.105, and the block ID is #5111

Hi Beagle...Welcome to WikiTree,

The IP address you provided above does not appear to be blocked.  You account also appears to have no restrictions, and it seems you were able to log in and post here.  I don't get the impression anyone is mad at you :)

It could be her email that has a block of some kind employed.

Maybe you can try another method of communicating with the person who contacted you.  From her WikiTree profile page, you could click to send her a private message or you can post a public message on the right side of her page.

Try to log out, log back in, and give it another go.

Try sending a message to someone else to see if that works differently.

When all else fails... email all of your information to info@wikitree.com

I'm sure it will work out.  If there is an error we can fix it.  Please post here to keep us in the loop until it is resolved.

Yes, I can log into WikiTree but when I go to Joni McCarthy's site, I continue to get the Emergency Block. The private message gives me the same response. She gave me her personal email, so I will try that.

Though you say that my account has no restrictions, I keep getting the block with communication via wikitree emails. I hope this can be remedied.

Should I cancel my current account and recreate another?

Despite your reassurances that there is nothing wrong with my account, I continue to get the "Emergency Block" Message! Yes, I can login and logout but, I cannot Edit or invite someone to my tree.

This is the error message I get everytime I tried to do something in my profile:

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by a WikiTree Leader.

·   Start of block: 15:22, 29 December 2014

·   Intended for: 99.68.245.15

·   Suspected violation: Contact with WikiTree Team needed

I do not know how else to discribe the situation orher than  I still get Blocked when I do anything. Is there a fix for this?

Yes... the fix is the same: email your info to info@wikitree.com

I did go to the list of all blocked IP addresses and accounts and did a search.  Your IP address you provided came back with the statement "this IP address is not blocked".

info@ will take care of you :)

I will also add the tag "sysops" to your post so that it will be seen by the right people for sure.

Keith not all users are blocked by IP. Some are by ID. If soneone is blocked regardless of IP block or ID block they will still get the current IP address with the message like the one in the question. A blocked member can still log in and look around certain parts of the site. They can't edit other profiles but they can delete messages from their profile.

Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry regarding “Emergency Block”. As I have written, I can login and log out of my WikiTree account.

 

However, I get the Emergency Block when:

1.     I try to enter information into my profile

2.     When I try to add an unrelated person

3.     When I try to respond to a request from another member

4.     When I try to send a private message

5.     I am told there are no blocks to my account and that everything is in order but keep getting the same message Emergency block in place.

6.     Current IP address is 99.157.229.105, and the block ID is #5111

I had an emergency block not to long ago and I they emailed me they had fixed it, so

I hope they will find out the problem for you.

How long did it take them to fix it for you?  I got blocked two days ago, e-mailed them yesterday and still get the blocked message today.  I have time on the weekends to contribute to Wikitree but am getting behind on my personally-set-schedule because of the block.

How long?
