I found some information for you that may be helpful.  According to Census records, marriage, and other MEADOWS researchers:

LITTLETON TOLBERT MEADOWS was born June 15, 1818 in Coffee Co., TN and died Aug. 11, 1879 in Coffee Co., TN.

He married first ELIZABETH RAYBURN, who was born about 1812 in Virginia.  The children by his first wife are; NANCY, SARAH, PERMIELIA, MARY, JAMES, MARTHA and HARRIETT MEADOWS.

LITTLETON MEADOWS is found on the 1840 Coffee Co., TN Census - there are 3 white members and 1 slave in the household - total of 4 persons.

LITTLETON MEADOWS is found on the 1850 District 2, Coffee Co., TN Census - and the 1850 Slave Schedule states that he owns one slave - a 43 year old black female.  Information on the 1850 Census is transcribed below:

Head of household, LITTLETON MEADOWS, age 32, born in Alabama, estate is worth $500, he is a farmer.

Wife, ELIZABETH MEADOWS, age 38, born in Virginia.

NANCY, age 9, born in TN.

SARAH, age 7, born in TN.

PERMELIA, age 6, born in TN.

MARY, age 4, born in TN.

JAMES, age 1, born in TN.

If you will look at the original 1850 Census, you will see that the "birth place" of LITTLETON is a "ditto" mark - the individuals listed above him were born in Alabama.  I think the Census taker made a small error.

LITTLETON MEADOWS married his 2nd wife, MARTHA ANDERSON CASS on Oct. 28, 1858 in Coffee Co., TN.  Perhaps his first wife, ELIZABETH, has died.

MARTHA ANDERSON CASS was born July 6, 1834 in Coffee Co., and died Sept. 23, 1879 in Temple, Bell Co., Texas.  She was the daughter of MOSES MADISON CASS and LUCRETIA "LUCY" WEBSTER.

I found LITTLETON and his 2nd wife, MARTHA, on the 1860 District 2, Coffee Co., Tennessee Census:

Head of household, L MEADOWS, age 45, real estate is worth $500, personal estate is worth $1,000, he is a farmer.  (NOTE:  The column "place of birth" is left blank on this Census)

Wife, MARTHA MEADOWS, age 27.

SARAH, age 17.

PERMELIA, age 16,

MARY, age 14.

JAMES, age 12.

MARTHA, age 10,

HARRIETT, age 7.

WILLIAM, age 10 months.

NOTE:  All of the children listed are ELIZABETH's except the youngest, WILLIAM, who is the first child of LITTLETON and MARTHA.

Well, that's about all I could find for now - some of it I found by typing in "Littleton Tolbert Meadows" in my search engine.

I hope this helps you in your search!  Sincerely, Melinda

Thank you so much, the hint about the error in birth state could help me find his parents.  I appreciate all your work.
Dear Kay - I'm glad that I was able to help!  Also wanted to tell you that SO FAR no one is listing the parents of LITTLETON TOLBERT MEADOWS.

Since we know that he was in Coffee Co., Tennessee as early as 1840, you may want to google "Coffee County Tennessee Genealogy" and see if there is a "genealocial society" or "historical society" to contact.

Local libraries are also good sources for information.

Hope this helps - Sincerely, Melinda
I want to thank you again, per your suggestion I googled Coffee County Tn

Genealogy and found they have a message board, so I am hopeful something may turn up there.   Greatly appreciate it!

Kay - Hope you find the information you are searching for!  Good luck on the message board, too!  Did you find a "genealogical" or "historical" society in Coffee County?  They would be happy to help you - GOOD LUCK!  Melinda
Hopefully you may find the parentage of Littleton T. Meadows. This is my stone wall. I have searched since 1970. My grandmother, Anna Belle Meadows, was 6 years old when he died. She thought his grave was covered when the church was moved many years ago. Littleton's parentage has never been established. He was not born in Coffee County. Coffee County was not established until 1836. If he was born in that area it would have been in either Bedford County of Rutherford County, TN. He lived in the same area for many years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Beechgrove, TN and was apparently well thought of . Wish I could help you more!!!
