George Gary Lee was my great grandfather and is buried in Evergreen cemetery in St. Augustine. His sons were Odom, Fitzhugh and Lamark Lee my grandfather. They had a sister named Charlotte. They were cousins of Robert E. Lee. George Gary Lee was a frontier minister in Florida and graduated from Vanderbilt. He was married twice. I have his picture and also his second wife's picture. His father's name was Joshua and served in the Confederate army at least that was what I was told. Hope this helps.

Do you know where in VA, what county and or city? Lee is certainly a prominent surname in Virginia. Would you have the day of the year and the month of his birth?

There was a George Lee, born in VA in 1861 who at the time of the 1880 US Census was at Academy/Little Levels, Pocahontas, WV. His father was Georg  Lee and his mother was Betsy, they were both b. in VA. He was 56 and she was 44 in 1880. This George Lee had 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Thank you, Frank. This can't be the one as my George Lee was white and this is a black family. Appreciate your help anyway!!!

The GEORGE LEE that was born 1861 in Virginia and died April 1, 1944 in St. Augustine, St. Johns Co., Florida is actually GEORGE GARY-LEE - yes, his surname is GARY-LEE!  He married EMMA about 1910 and I found them on the 1920, 1930, 1935 and 1940 St. Johns Co., Census.

GEORGE GARY-LEE was a Methodist Mnister - he and his wife, EMMA are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in St. Augustine, St. Johns Co., Florida.  The person that posted their "memorials" on findagrave.com has the wrong surname - I have sent them a message to correct it.  (Memorial #57368172)

Perhaps EMMA was GEORGE's 2nd wife?  Does it sound like your GEORGE LEE?  If it is, I will be glad to transcribe the Census records for you.

I could not find GEORGE on any earlier Census.  There is a GEORGE GARY-LEE FAMILY TREE on Ancestry.com, but it is private so I cannot view it.

I hope this helps you in your search!  Sincerely, Melinda
