Any information on Wendel and Magdalena Graeff and the siege of Mainz 1793?

A photo of a postcard of the original oil portrait of Wendel is on wikitree - the story is that he died at the siege of Mainz and his son escaped to England. The info from German parish records are not verified, but the Briitis naturalization details for his son gives his father and mother as Wendel and Magdalena.

If anyone has anything to add to the story of the Graeff family of Mainz in the 18th century (or earlier), I would be delighted.
