Does Mary Unknown now have a last name?

What proof is there that Mary Unknown, Mary (Partridge) Marshall, Mary (Partridge) Catlin, Mary (Partridge) Catlin and others are all one and the same person? And what is the correct last name? And who is going to fix this? Are there any more Mary's to add to this list?

Years ago, I was told in no uncertain terms, that Ralph Partridge's daughter was not the same Mary that married Edward Elmer. The Partridge tree was complete and did not include Edward. If that were the case, then it would also not include Thomas Catlin.

R. C. Anderson, TMB was rather sure that her last name was unknown.

Is there new information that I am not aware of?

Hi Robert,

I am not an expert on that family at all, but just took a look to see what I can see as an outsider of sorts.

The one image on that profile you linked to does show the same woman married to both men.  Not sure if that is "new".

I hope you get it all straight... thank you and good luck :)

Twenty years ago, the esteemed Robert Charles Anderson was unable to find Mary's last name or other origins, but he did confirm that she married both Edward Elmer and Thomas Catlin. The entry for Edward Elmer in The Great Migration Begins has a blank for Mary's last name at birth and it states that she outlived her husband (who died 6 June 1676 in Hartford, "said to be killed by Indians") and that she married Thomas Catlin. The entry for her is followed by the citation WiLR 1:240 -- WiLR is Windsor, Connecticut, Deeds.

Apparently Ralph Partridge is someone that people used to want to be related to. I've run across similar firm assertions that a particular person was not a child of Ralph Partridge. There were several Partridge families among the early settlers of New England, so she could have been a Partridge without being a child of Ralph.

It looks like Partridge-1003 should be left alone although we should find her Marshall husband and attach him as her spouse. She appears to be the Mary daughter of Ralph who married a Marshall but not an Elmer or Catlin.

Lacking an upper/lower-case Mary Unknown, we should use UNKNOWN-257919 as the target for merging the other Mary's, spouse of Elmer and Catlin.

I see that there is currently a rejected match on Mary UNKNOWN that should be removed and re proposed as a merge.

I've (re)proposed the merges.
