I am trying to trace my son-in-laws ancestry in Malta with very limited information.  Can you tell me the best way to go about this.  Many thanks

Start with the earliest ancestor whose name is known and work back to the next generation. I would go to  familysearch.org  with birth, marriage and or death date of his earliest known ancestor. Locations at each of these dates could be usefull too. Fill in as many blanks as you can that come up on the screen and do the search.

Malta isn't listed in the familysearch record collections that i could find?
If you use Malta for the  birth location and expand the range for birth date to 1920-1929, it should have about four people who went through Elllis Island in 1920 with the same name.
