Dear Margaret - I don't know if you already have this information, but here goes:

I found your T T GILL on several different Census records - His first name was "THOMAS" - I do not know what the middle initial "T" stands for.

In the "LOUISIANA STATEWIDE DEATH INDECES - 1900 - 1929", THERE IS RECORD OF:

THOMAS GILL, age 55 years, died September 30, 1923 in Allen Parish, Louisiana; Certificate #13429, Volume 33.

With the Certificate and Volume Number, you can request a copy of his Death Certificate - which, hopefully, will show the names of his parents.

PLEASE order this Death Certificate - I am certain it it your T T GILL!

I found T T GILL and EMMA buried in the Oakdale Cemetery in Oakdale, Allen Parish, Louisiana.  The grave marker of T T GILL reads "1860 - 1923"    The grave marker of EMMA GILL reads "May 15, 1878 - Sept 29, 1959".

NOW FOR THE REST OF THE INFORMATION!

Concerning the different "places of birth" for T. (THOMAS) T. GILL - On the 1930Jefferson Co., Texas Census, it shows that TOMMY and LILLIE's father was born in Pennsylvania.

However, on the 1920 Spring Hill, Rapides, Louisiana Census, it shows T T GILL's birthplace as Florida.

Keeping in mind tthat T T GILL's occupation was "engineer", I decided to look in the 1910 Louisianna Census and try to find a "GILL" that was born about 1868 that was an "engineer".

Well, guess what!  I found him on the 1910 New Orleans Ward 2, Orleans Co., Louisiana Census.

Head of household, THOMAS GILL, age 40, single, he owns his home free of mortgage, born in Louisiana, parents born in Ireland, occupation is "engineer - plantation".

Sister, ANNIE GILL, age 45, single, born in Louisiana, parents born in Ireland.

Aunt, MARGARET EDGERLY, age 65, widowed, she has had no children, born in Ireland, parents born in Ireland.

NOTE;  This 1910 Census is very difficult to read - the image is very, very light -

I know, ANOTHER PLACE OF BIRTH!  So far we have, Pennsylvania, Florida and Louisiana!  But just wait!

On the 1900 Policy Jury Ward 2, Vernon, Louisiana is the following:

Boarder, THOMAS GILL, age 31, born June 1868 in Pennsylvania, father born in Scotland, mother born in England, occupation is "____ mill en_eer".

NOTE:  The handwriting on this 1900 Census is terrible - and the image is very light - but it could be "engineer".

I decided to go back in time to the 1880 Louisiana Census to see if I could find THOMAS and his sister, ANNIE (listed in the 1910 Census) -

On the 1880 New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana Census is the following:

Mother, MARY GILL, age 40, widowed, born in England, parents born in "left blank".

Daughter, ANNIE GILL, age 24, born in Louisiana, father born in "left blank", mother born in England.

Daughter, MAGGIE GILL, age 13, born in Louisiana, father born in "left blank", mother born in England, attending school.

Son, THOMAS GILL, age 11, born in Louisiana, father born in "left blank", mother born in England, attending school.

This is all I have so far - hope it helps you in your search.  Would love to know what THOMAS GILL's death certificate reveals!

Your T T GILL's grave marker has "1860" as his birth date, but it was actually "1868" - it's not the first time that I've seen a wrong birth date on a grave marker.

Thank you for looking at my "Brick Wall"   The only answer that is my grandfather T. T. Gill is in the 1920 Census Rapides Parish Louisiana.   My father Thomas Gill was born in Leesville, Vernon Parish, Louisiana  6-December-1911.   I just can't connect any other information to him.  His death certificate did'nt help, no parents listed.  I've followed the Florida connection to his parents living with a daughter in 1910- which disqualified them. I found a Penn. connection to Elizabeth Gill Lecher where he was a stepson then lost the trail, seems he was  Thomas P. Gill in that instance. I have'nt discounted this finding but don't feel optimistic about it.     Please keep looking.  thank you.
